Equine Assist Farrier Service
Scheduling
Everyone benefits from developing a consistent shoeing and trimming maintenance schedule.
Before leaving the barn I will schedule your next appointment at an appropriate interval.
We do not normally work on Sunday. We do not normally work in extreme weather.
You will be notified if we will be more than 15 minutes late for our appointment.
Please notify us know if you will be more than 15 minutes late for our appointment.
If possible, please show up early to have your horse ready and available by our scheduled appointment time.
We never rush through our work, the typical shoeing job takes anywhere from 60-90 minutes depending on horse behavior and degree of correction. If your horse is well behaved, you do not have to stay.
Farrier Work Conditions
An appropriate area must be provided to trim and shoe your horse. It should be inside, free of manure and mud, well lit, flat and safe. Safety for the horse and the farrier is a joint responsibility.
Please have your horse ready, available, reasonably clean, and well mannered by the scheduled appointment time. If our appointment is during feeding times, please do not feed other horses while we are working on your horse. This only serves as a distraction to your horse and a hungry horse does not stand well.

The fine print...
-Any expected changes in fees will be discussed before the work is started.
-Fee variations are due to horse behavior, materials and degree of correction.
-We do not normally bill for services rendered. Payment is due upon completion of service, unless prior payment arrangements have been made.
-We do not take credit cards, pay-pal or other electronic payments
-Cash or personal checks are the preferred methods of payment
-Payment plans and contract services are available.
-We will replace a lost or cast shoe as soon as possible. With the exception of foundered or certain seriously injured horses that take priority, a lost or cast shoe is usually not a medical emergency. We ask that you notify us at the earliest opportunity.
Horse Behavior
Your horse will stand better if you do not tie your horse up for an extended period of time. If your horse is too energetic, We recommend that you longe your horse before your appointment. It is your responsibility to discipline your horse if the horse is not behaving. We work with every horse patiently. We do not employ brutality. The horse may smell or nuzzle, but we draw the line at trying to bite, stomp or kick. In the event a horse bites, kicks, strikes, or pulls, we may use an open hand slap or an elbow to the chest in order to teach the horse that such behaviors are unacceptable and enforce our position as the alpha or "boss" in the horse’s world.
If the trimming or shoeing cannot be finished due to the horse’s behavior you will need to call in a veterinarian to tranquilize your horse. This may result in re-scheduling your appointment to another day, as well as increased farrier fees.
We do not carry Ace, Dorm gel or any other sedation medication. We also cannot administer any sedation medication to your horse. If your horse needs sedation, you, your barn manager, or your Vet need to be present and need to stay until the horse is returned to their stall.
